For the original homeowners of North Vancouver’s Edgemont, Capilano Highlands and Delbrook neighbourhoods, Edgemont Village has been the focal point of daily life for half a century. Now, a proposed new development in the Village promises to provide North Vancouver seniors with the things they need to get the most out of the next stage of their lives.

Edgemont Senior Living has applied to the District of North Vancouver for permission to build an independent supported living rental residence on the corner of Highland Boulevard and Woodbine Drive, next to the Village and its 120 shops and services.

This proposal is timely for the increasing number of people in North Vancouver who are getting older. Of the various senior living complexes around the North Shore, none is in the Edgemont area, and that means people face the choice of moving out of the neighborhood, or try to stay in the family home and cope with increasingly difficult maintenance.

The proposed 129-residence Edgemont Senior Living, designed to complement the character of the Village and the natural beauty of the North Shore, could change all that. It will provide the programs and supportive services that will contribute to the well-being of its residents, 70% of whom will originate from the District and City of North Vancouver.

At the same time, Edgemont Senior Living will add to the vibrant community that is Edgemont Village, where residents will shop, stroll or stop for tea or coffee. To ensure the project fits into with the character and vision of the community, a series of public meetings has already taken place and more are scheduled.
